     Ha-ha, I’m it!

My fine fellow blogger, Crazy Goblin managed to catch me before I made it to safe ground so now I must answer his questions – because you know what Christina Rossetti said about Goblin Men…

Q.  Have you ever been made redundant from your job and how did you feel about it?

A.  Thankfully, no.

Q.  If you were interviewing someone for a writing job, what 3 qualities would you look for and why?

A.  I would ask; do you live in a garret and have a laudanum habit?  Are you psychologically traumatised?  Can you hit a deadline?  Yes to any one of those three gets you the job.

Q.  What is your favorite board game and why?

A.  I hate board games.  Competition makes me anxious and I still have nightmares about Operation.

Q.  When you look at the stars, what do you see?

A.  Galaxies far, far away...

Q. When you look at the ocean, what does it remind you of?

A.  A big blue wobbly thing that mermaids live in.

Q.  How do you overcome writer’s block?

A.  A change of scenery  (which is just an excuse to head for a different coffee shop).

Q.  If you could say 3 encouraging things to another person, what would they be?

A.  I love you, in a million years time who is going to care?  And no, your bum doesn’t look big in that…

Q.  Do you prefer to write your stories/books/poetry/prose/articles on paper first, then type them up and edit them, or do you like to type them straight into your computer to edit?

A.  Despite having romantic notions about a quill and parchment everything goes straight on the laptop.  I didn’t learn to touch-type for nothing.

Q.  Do you like writing in one genre or more?

A.  I’m a fan of the darkly fantastic but that is a vast and multifaceted thing.  I enjoy entrail-draped gimp dungeons AND cute fluffy bunny rabbits.

Q.  As a writer, do you think actions speak louder than words?

A.  Definitely.  Words are tricksy.

Q.  What is your favorite quote and why?

A.  If there’s nothing wrong with me then there must be something wrong with the universe.

So, scramble everyone because if I tag you it’s your turn to copy what you see here…

Welcome to June at Lily Wight ~ The Arcade of Arts & Arcana.

As The Olympic Flame winds its way around our green and pleasant land and with the nation on the brink of celebrating Queen Elizabeth’s Diamond Jubilee there has never been a better time to be British (please ignore our coalition government and “double-dip” recession).

I am dedicating this month’s musings to the era of another great female monarch, Queen Victoria and her dubiously monikered Age of Empire.  Victoria reached her Diamond Jubilee year in 1897 and there is every possibility that, in a few short years, our current reigning queen will wreck her record as Blighty’s longest-serving monarch.

If Victorians are remembered for their conquests and industry perhaps future generations will refer to Ma’am’s subjects as Neo-Elizabethans from The Age of Technology and Terrorism :(  We are certainly grateful for the extra days off work, the street-parties, the televised pageantry and Wills and Kate :)

My favourite Victorian Pre-Raphaelite maiden, The Lady of Shalott, will be appearing in the homepage sidebar all month as June’s Magickal Thing (more on her later) just click the pics to link to some new sample images from the brand new Gallery Album ~ Victoriana.

See you back here soon, Blogsprites xx

I just made a new treasury list of lovely things that are for sale from different shops on Etsy. This time it's about Claudia from Interview with the Vampire, the child vampire with the angelic face and many pretty things.

I was reading the book in February when I was writing my college thesis under great pressure (on another topic), having found the book on…

After throwing myself enthusiastically (if rather haphazardly) into the deep-end of the Blogpool I am thrilled to find myself swimming… without arm-bands!

I would like to say a huge thank you to Morgan Mussel of The First Gates for presenting me with The Versatile Blogger Award.  Please click on his name to link to a wonderful website.

I am getting to grips with my responsibilities as an award winner so more on this soon!

I think this is the moment where I curtsey and shuffle off stage left ;)

So much more than just leprechauns and their pots o’ gold, the old tales of Ireland are saturated with legends and lore that tend to leave a tingle up the spine.

Irish fairies, also known as the Good Folk or the Wee Folk, are rarely the innocent pixie-beings we have come to know.

Considering the mischievous sprites and terrifying creatures abounding in the craggy hills and misty moors, humans of long ago would be sure to avoid venturing out too far during ancient festivals such as Midsummer’s Eve (Summer Solstice) or Samhain (Halloween).

If you mention The Tarot superstitious folks tend to back away uttering protective curses and crossing themselves.  I would like to dispel this nonsense.

The origins of Tarot imagery are debatable but the cards were devised as a playing deck, with four suits combining pip and court cards.

The supposedly sinister Major Arcana evolved in part so artists and crafters could showcase their skills.  Increasingly elaborate decks were commissioned by wealthy and aristocratic houses simply for the love of owning and displaying beautiful things.

Tarot images speak the universal language of mythic symbology.  The archetypal characters, concepts and scenarios tell of The Fool’s journey from innocence through experience to enlightenment and self-realisation.  Anyone familiar with Jung’s theories on The Collective Unconscious and Joseph Campbell’s deconstruction of Mythology will find nothing dangerously occult here.

The images of The Tarot serve a similar purpose to the black-splodge Rorschach Test.  This is a psychological tool which allows us to consider a given situation and order our thoughts and feelings with objectivity.  Meditating upon a Tarot spread can help us perceive things more clearly, negotiate life’s obstacles and acknowledge deep thoughts and desires.

Like many who appreciate The Tarot I perform a personal reading on each of the United Kingdom’s eight indigenous ancient festival days, the latest being Ostara, The Vernal (or Spring) Equinox which heralds the first day of springtime (Tuesday 20th March).

I will post my reading here on Friday evening.  As usual I would love to hear your thoughts x
