Summer 2012 is a total wash-out here in the United Kingdom so I will endeavour to make this month at The Arcade of Arts & Arcana as enchanting and enticing as possible!
July will be dedicated to strings and things; to the cute puppet friends who delighted us in childhood to the creepy, pant-wetting, spindle-limbed horrors that still haunt our adult nightmares… no? Just me then 😉
I also hope to squeeze in a few reviews and recommendations for some unusual Graphic Novels and present some Blog Awards whilst saying thanks for those I have recently received.
I have updated and launched a brand new album in the Gallery (you can click the header tab to visit, free entry as usual) or simply click the sample pictures below…

I am not really a fan of puppets and marionettes – they are just too creepy (in my eyes)…BUT…I have to say that the dancing skeleton is great!

What a great theme! I have enjoyed marionette shows since I was a child. When I was a kid, we had marionette troups visit our elementary schools each year. They did fairytales such as “Red Riding Hood” and “Goldilocks and the Three Bears.” It was magical. Made me a fan for life.

Thanks for the comment. I hope those marionette shows didn’t scare you too much. I’ve been inspired because a local market town has a puppet festival next month. Previous years have been brilliant so I’m hoping to get some photos on here 🙂

Thank you so much for that – I adore puppets – I don’t find them creepy – I think they are beautiful. I adore the cat ones in the shops in Venice.

I have a fear of several things (like checking my mail for one…LoL), but puppets isn’t one of them, thank goodness.

Three great places to see puppets and marionettes perform on historic theatre stages are my home town Luebeck, Schwaebisch Hall and Augsburg, in Germany and of course Prague in the Czech Republic, where I saw a performance of Don Giovanni just as it would have been shown during Mozart’s time in that great city. Great stuff, although I agree, puppet shows are creepy, but in a good way!

I visited the Rhine Valley earlier in the year and saw some beautiful little towns. I would love to go to Prague. It’s the puppet capital of the world 😉 There is a puppet festival every year in a town close by, it gets bigger and better every year – Don Giovanni sounds amazing, I might see if I can find some footage on YouTube 🙂 xx

Probably no Don Giovanni footage, they nearly threw out some Japanese girlies who held up their mobile phones to record the performance. The costumes were splendid and they had a puppeteer in the “orchestra” pit pretending to conduct the musicians, very funny.
