If you dust-off June in The Arcade Of Arts & Arcana’s Archives (head to the sidebar on the homepage) you’ll find Pre-Raphaelite strumpets, naughty vintage movies some ridiculous facts about the Victorian Era and a popular post on that favourite guilty pleasure – Francis Ford Coppola’s Dracula (click the link to read the original post).
Perhaps it was Eiko Ishioka’s demonic raw-muscle armour that made the post so popular. You can see it again here along with more of Ishioka’s Oscar-winning costumes for Gary Oldman…
Now that is what I call Avant Garde!

I remember when watching Dracula fr the first time, that armour was soooooo creepy and Gary Oldman as older Dracula also. Especially at the beginning when Harker comes to his castle; “game of shadows” and D’s crawling on all four over the wall…..
Great movie and great armour design.

I have fond memories of this one too. My brother and I were so scared after watching neither of us would go down the dark hallway at home because the light switch was at the far end!
We were older than you think.

Same here, Gary Oldman was really creepy especially at the beginning of the movie (I was also too old to get scared, but…). Although Monica Bellucci as Dracula’s bride helped to overcome those fears 😉

I’ll bet 🙂 For me the highlight is Keanu’s accent and his classic line “I was impotent with fear”. *snort*

I totally forgot about that :-), but he actually said it. Well I guess it is time to watch the good old Count D. again…
