The YA Writer Terry Deary in th UK seems to think Libraries are not relevant anymore and he says he doesn’t want to subsidize their use anymore…..whats up with that guy! Talk about a Scrooge mentality!

I should think quite a few of his fans were introduced to his work in libraries. I love my local library, it offers books, film and music, it holds a number of events such as author signings and book sales, it is a meeting place for a number of Arts groups and it has a great cafe. Maybe poor Terry has lost his marbles 😉

MIne too! I love it…I think I go almost every 2-4 weeks to the library for one reason or another…one of our libraries brought a real live fruit bat into the library to show the kids and parents … one celebrated Dia Del Muertos with various artwork and contests and music …..Its called Culture people! We need more of that in our society…that kindstuff is the most inspiring thing life for me…

What a cultural loss libraries would be if they did disappear. It’s always been a dream of mine to have books sat on a shelf in a library, long after I have passed away.

I feel very fortunate to live close to a major city centre library that offers a variety of facilities but community groups are fighting the closure of small libraries close by right now.
The library was a trip-out and a treat for me as a child and I had a part-time library job through college.
I’d rather borrow a book than download one. I’ll keep my eyes open for one of yours 😉 x

Thanks Lily. I always remember my mother taking me to the library when I was a kid and snuggling up in bed at night reading. Loved being at the library.
I love second hand books as well, even picking them out on Amazon when I go shopping. Just imagining whose hands they had been through, who those words had touched before, etc.
Hopefully libraries will still be around to house my book!
