Jamie Dornan may have bagged the much coveted role of sado-hunk Christian Grey but it is his little known co-star, Dakota Johnson, who is currently Google’s most searched for celeb.  So here she is,  Ms. Anastasia Steele, in this month’s movie adaptation of E. L. James’ Fifty Shades of Grey.

You’ll soon be seeing ALOT more of her 😉

*Dakota Mayi Johnson was born 4th October 1989 in Austin, Texas, USA.

*Dakota is the daughter of actors, Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson and the stepdaughter of Antonio Banderas.

*Dakota made her acting début in Crazy In Alabama (1999) directed by Antonio Banderas and starring with her mother, Melanie and half-sister, Stella Banderas.

*Dakota signed to IMG Models in 2006 and became Miss Golden Globe the same year.

*Film credits include a brief  *ahem* but memorable scene in Facebook movie, The Social Network.

     The Silmarillion

Genius is not a term to be attributed lightly but if any author deserves such an accolade it is John Ronald Reuel Tolkien.
Traditional Mythologies contain a vast body of evolving materials collected over time by countless storytellers and authors.  So, for one man to invent arguably the finest and most emotive…

NBC’s Constantine TV show is set to air on 24th October with Matt Ryan in the lead role so there’s plenty of time to familiarise yourself with Vertigo’s paranormal PI.

Grubby, British, sociopolitical and astute, Constantine’s adventures will appeal to those who want smarts with their supernatural.

There are bigger, more epic story arcs than the standalones in this graphic novel collection but time in Constantine’s company is always well spent.

article-0-1D7B01A900000578-531_634x607     J.J. Abrams appears to be following in George Lucas’s footsteps by casting relatively unknown younglings alongside the familiar older cast.

Precious little is known about British actress, Daisy Ridley who has a handful of TV credits to her name in shows such as Casualty, Silent Witness and Mr. Selfridge.  All that looks set to change however following a role in The Inbetweeners 2 and a certain Sci Fi saga that a few fans will be waiting until 2015 to see.

Here is Daisy’s slideshow *WARNING contains boobage!!*

Carr’s self-deprecating camp infuses this autobiography which unfortunately stops short before his fame gets started, suggesting all the good stuff has been saved for later volumes.  It’s a shame because despite the good humour there is nothing remarkable here, unless you count the fact that Carr is surprisingly well-adjusted for a comedian.

Alan’s formative years seem no different to those of any ordinary middle-class thirty-something;  nice family, depressingly menial part-time jobs, a pointless degree and some fun holidays.

Unfortunately the opportunity to offer advice on the perils of building a stand-up career is overlooked, with Carr being unduly brief and modest about such a difficult profession.

If you like Carr you’ll like this, but the best is probably yet to come.

140429164103-01-new-star-wars-cast-horizontal-gallery     You’ll have to wait until December 2015 to get a brand new Star Wars: Episode VII sized Christmas present so there’s plenty of time to acquaint yourself with the next generation of stars from that galaxy far, far away.

Recently released cast details reveal nothing about character names and roles but British actor John Boyega (22) is most likely to fill the role of hot young hero whilst hoping to escape the saga’s infamous Hamill-Christensen curse.

Pure trash of course but also a fascinating insight into celebrity culture’s evolution throughout the noughties.

As the founding editor of Heat magazine Frith makes for a flawed and fabulous narrator, jealous of the success of fellow publications, often derogatory about the stars he refers to as “playthings” and covetous of fame.   Frith is also fiercely loyal to his team and dedicated to a refreshing and  worthy ethos to de-bunk celebrity myth.
Ironically and unfortunately, normalising celebrities created a space for ordinary folk from reality shows to seize the spotlight.  The subsequent rise of savvy PRs has enabled celebs to play the once revelatory magazines at their own game.

It’s a fascinating insight into a unique period of modern history by a smart, flawed guy who was actually there.

It is almost a decade since Stephenie Meyer’s genre-busting archetype-twisting début novel Twilight was published.  Now that this much-loved yet contentious saga is definitely over and RPatz and KStew have gone their separate ways (or have they?) perhaps it is time for a reassessment.

Fans of hardcore horror and esoteric gothicism will feel vaguely violated by this dilution of Vampire Mythology for the Young Adult market but Twilight heroine, Bella Swan is as clingy as a Spider Monkey 😉

Unfortunately Twilight’s magnificent PR campaign will forever be superior to its subject and style – melodramatic teen diary destined to alienate literary-minded adults.  It also commits the unfortunate crime of being a mere introduction to better things to come.

Heroine Bella details her chores one minute and snipes about her perfectly nice and…

12/12/2013 TOP BLOG POST!

If you checked-in for yesterday’s post you will already know that Sherlock Holmes is Dracula’s only significant rival when it comes to literary characters with the most big and small screen adaptations to their credit.

An alternative world mash-up featuring Robert Downey Jr.’s movie detective versus the BBC’s Benedict Cumberbatch (with an army of self-styled “Cumberbabes” in tow) would be quite a spectacle.  In the meantime I’m recommending the Stephen Spielberg produced Young Sherlock Holmes as the perfect accompaniment for a Father’s Day afternoon nap.

The arcane and occult plot-stylings undoubtedly influenced Guy Ritchie’s Twenty-First Century Holmes reboot and (although plaudits go elsewhere) Young Sherlock Holmes is a film that utilised groundbreaking CGI effects; just check-out the stained glass knight in one of the movie’s many not-so-family-friendly moments!

     Indiana Jones meets Gothic Victoriana…

This month’s must see movie has a rather tenuous Middle-earth link and an intriguing take on fantasy and the nature of storytelling.  It also stars Lee Pace, an actor who has hovered on the brink of stardom for too long and may well steal Orlando Bloom’s “Hottest Elf” crown with his darkly enigmatic portrayal of Legolas’ father, King Thranduil of Mirkwood.

There is still time to catch The Fall before the release of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.  If you enjoy the trailer then watch the full movie right here!
