The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey gave us only the briefest glimpse of Sauron – as The Necromancer – motion-captured by Smaug actor Benedict Cumberbatch. Hopefully Part II, The Desolation of Smaug, will show us more.

It was during Middle-earth month that The Arcade Of Arts & Arcana chose to drop the bombshell that Benedict Cumberbatch would be playing Sauron – as well as his well-publicised role of Smaug – in The Hobbit Trilogy. https://lilywight.com/2012/11/21/benedict-cumberbatch-is-sauron/
I can now reveal The Hobbit’s new-look Legolas – a fantastic mini-spoiler in action-figure form!
Orlando Bloom will be reprising the role that made him an overnight sensation alongside Lee Pace as Legolas’ father – King Tranduil Of Mirkwood.
The costume has a regal military look, more structured and formal than the travelling clothes seen in The Lord Of The Rings. The organic, Japanese-inspired styling is reminiscent of the armour worn by the Elves during The Last Alliance of The Second Age, the battle featured in the prologue to The Fellowship Of The Ring.
Another surprise is the invention of flame-haired Elf Maiden Tauriel (Evangeline Lilly) a character created by Peter Jackson and his writing team. Tauriel is rumoured to enjoy a romantic spark with Aidan Turner’s Kili!
Why not just buy the action figures and make-up your own movie 😉
